Missing the Umlaut explores how language and institutional systems quietly shape identity. Beginning with the repeated omission of the umlaut in my own name, the work transforms an entire studio into a field of the letter Ü, accompanied by a durational vocal performance. Through repetition, breath, and endurance, a single character becomes a reflection on migration, translation, belonging, and the invisible labor of adapting to systems that ask us to become readable in order to belong.
